DVULI participants from Boston, Louisville, Indianapolis, Memphis, and Phoenix, who comprise the DVULI class of 2024, gathered in Orlando last week for the first national conference (NC1).

Four intense days, each starting with worship and devotions, were followed by immersive learning fueled by compelling case studies and cutting-edge curriculum.

The DVULI alumni facilitators, pioneers who have walked the leadership path, served as anointed guiding lights. Their wisdom? Priceless. Their impact? Unforgettable. Attendees didn’t just listen to the refreshing, life-giving, yet hard-hitting teachings; they absorbed, opened up, and some transformed. God planted seeds for healthy change.

New to the NC1 platform were Nike Greene (Portland 2005) and Maurice Winley (NYC 2010). They joined the returning Marvin Daniels (Chicago 2008) and the tenured ranks of Frank Reynoso (Orlando 2010), Henry Greenidge (Portland 2003), Sandra Valentine (Orlando 1998), Matu Taylor (Los Angeles 2019), Ron Carter (Birmingham 1999), Jeremy Del Rio (NYC 2010), and special guest Gordon MacDonald.

After the Core Values sessions and a heavy mental health focus, some participants signed up for a “Processing Station” appointment, a designated safe and private space to process the material. DVULI alumni Bernard Franklin (Kansas City 2001) and Tammy Barnett (Cincinnati 2012) provided listening ears, affirmations, and recommendations.

When not in training, participants enjoyed the balmy climate in bustling downtown Orlando.  Cohort members enjoyed long walks around Lake Eola and excursions to local eateries, karaoke, Universal City Walk, and Downtown Disney. The group outing was a catered meal at the Kia Center, followed by watching the Orlando Magic vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA game from a large suite.

Participants expressed gratitude and warm thanks to the DVULI team and hotel staff for a remarkable NC1 experience. The DVULI staff looks forward to seeing everyone again in Grand Rapids in October!
