1) DVULI Administrative Assistant

The Opportunity

The DVULI Administrative Assistant performs day-to-day administrative support and event planning for the DeVos Urban Leadership Initiative (DVULI). What You’ll Do

  • Responsible for planning and coordinating all DVULI core events (approximately 32 events annually), including sourcing and contracting appropriate event facilities; arranging lodging, rooming lists, meal details, meeting logistics, and A/V.
  • Coordinate air and ground travel for staff and contractors for DVULI events.
  • Assist with creating and sending communications to DVULI participants and stakeholders.
  • Provide operations support for in-house trainings.
  • Assist with annual updating of documents, handbooks, manuals, and agendas pertaining to program implementation.
  • Attend two National Conferences annually and Reunion events when they occur and provide on-site support to staff and attendees.
  • Assist program coordinator with contract management, including generating contracts and tracking signature and payment processes.
  • Generate payment requests and maintain a backup for payment processing.
  • Maintain physical files and DVULI archival files.
  • Assist with organizing and maintaining file-sharing and databases following DVULI naming conventions.
  • Update DVULI website with registration information, schedules, and event locations for new participants.
  • Manage DVULI staff email inbox, calendar, and departmental mail; maintain inventory and order DVULI office supplies.
  • Support DVULI staff with arranging travel, scheduling meetings, keeping meeting minutes, creating Salesforce reports, and submitting expense reports as needed.
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Participate in rotation with Philanthropy administrative assistants to provide continuous coverage of the phones and receptionist duties as requested.

What You’ll Bring

  • Minimum High School diploma; Associate degree preferred.
  • Experience with event/meeting planning is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with Salesforce is strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) speaking preferred.
  • Three years of clerical experience in various duties, including word processing, typing, filing, and proofreading in a professional office environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to initiate, prioritize, and follow through on projects and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to interface with a diverse array of audiences.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Microsoft Windows environment, including familiarity with Internet websites.
  • Good understanding of general office practices, procedures, and equipment; proficiency in English grammar in spoken and written words.
  • Will work to further the vision, mission, and principles of DVULI and those of the DeVos Family Foundations.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be able to lift/transport boxes of approximately thirty (30) pounds, stoop, bend, and climb steps and stairs.
  • Personal demeanor is professional, mature, courteous, cheerful, outgoing, and gracious.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a professional and highly confidential corporate environment.
  • Some domestic travel is required: Up to 1 week per trip, up to 4 times per year.

2) DVULI Communications Freelance Writer 

Remote Work Opportunity: 

We are looking to hire a team of freelance, part-time writers to join the DVULI Alumni Support and Communications team.  

 

Job Description: 

Candidates will research, write, and edit content for DVULI’s bi-annual print newsletter, On The LEVEL, and DVULI’s monthly e-newsletter, LEVEL Up. Your bylined content will reside on the DVULI.org website as DVULI’s property. 

All candidates must be either a DVULI alum, current participant, or DVULI facilitator/presenter and possess a strong understanding of serving youth in the urban setting from a Christian perspective.  

Writers should have excellent writing skills, meet deadlines, and have a strong understanding of grammar and punctuation. 

Information-gathering responsibilities will include scheduling and conducting Zoom interviews and some research on the subject/subject matter.  

Writers will receive story assignments and submit a draft of each story to an editor and make corrections/clarifications if necessary. Some assignments follow a certain formula; the writer must conform to that process. 

Story pitching is also welcomed. 

Ultimately, a top-performing content writer should be able to contribute to developing strategies that will increase reader engagement. 

 

Content Writer Responsibilities: 

  • Researching article-related topics to develop original content. 
  • Developing content for print and electronic newsletters and the DVULI.org website. 
  • Proofreading content for errors and inconsistencies. 
  • Editing and polishing existing content to improve readability. 
  • Creating compelling headlines and body copy that will capture and maintain the attention of the DVULI target audience(s). 

 

Content Writer Requirements: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, English, journalism, or related field. 
  • Proven content writing or copywriting experience. 
  • A portfolio of published articles. 
  • Excellent writing and editing skills. 
  • The ability to handle multiple projects concurrently. 
  • Effective communication skills.
